José Julián Martí Pérez nace, el 28 de enero de 1853, ha comenzado a manifestarse ya, en el panorama cultural cubano, el movimiento restaurador del Buen Gusto, que tiene en la segunda generación romántica a la portadora de las cualidades ideoestéticas necesarias, para el cambio de signo revelador de un innovador estadio literario, y en la Revista de la Habana (1853-1857), que dirigen Rafael María de Mendive y José de Jesús Quintiliano García, su principal órgano difusor.
Además de las conquistas formales y la corrección de los excesos de la oleada lírica anterior, este grupo de renovadores, entre los que se encuentra el maestro y protector de José Martí, desde el mismo colegio San Pablo, consigue llevar a un alto grado la expresión de lo cubano y su interiorización, en un discurso caracterizado por la mesura, la perfección del verso y la comunicación íntima del sujeto lírico con el paisaje insular, cuya creación se muestra abierta al influjo de otras literaturas, como una seña distintiva de su independencia gradual ante la retórica romántica metropolitana.
El estilo original martiano descuella, desde que publica Abdala (drama teatral, 1869), El presidio político en Cuba (testimonio, 1871), La república española ante la revolución cubana (monografía, 1873), Amor con amor se paga (teatro, 1875), Ismaelillo (poesía, 1882), Amistad funesta (novela, 1885), La Edad de Oro (revista infantil, 1889), Versos Sencillos (poesía, 1891) y el Manifiesto de Montecristi (testimonio político, 1895, en coautoría con Máximo Gómez), entre otras, pues gran parte de su obra, que es amplísima, se encuentra dispersa, en periódicos y revistas de innumerables países, en los que fue colaborador incansable.
Sin embargo, para la actual conmemoración del 158 natalicio de José Martí, durante el 2011, podemos agregar que, si con su poemario Ismaelillo, inaugura la modernidad en la poesía hispánica, junto a su revista La Edad de Oro, desbroza el camino de una nueva literatura en “Nuestra América”. Poemario y revista representan el punto más alto en la transgresión de la norma literaria instituida, tanto desde el punto de vista estético como ideológico. Ambas obras refuerzan el criterio de la buena literatura, que es condición artístico-literaria, sea quien sea su destinatario. En la renovación martiana confluyen el carácter fundacional de una nueva literatura nacional y continental, de una modernidad para las letras hispánicas, y un proyecto social que mantiene su vigencia hasta el presente. En José Martí, por su agudo sentido del pulso de la historia, conmoción literaria va unida a renovación de la sociedad, y en las dos el niño, el futuro, ocupan un sitial privilegiado. Estos son los principios estéticos e ideológicos de la obra de ese hombre de La Edad de Oro, que continúan vigentes hasta nuestros días.
Cabe agregar un texto fundamentalísimo, para comprender el alcance del ideario martiano, en materia filosófico-política, a partir de “La futura esclavitud”, artículo publicado por el Apóstol, en abril de 1884, dentro de la revista La América, de Nueva York, en donde manifiesta un agudo análisis sobre el ensayo homónimo, que escribiera el filósofo y sociólogo inglés Herbert Spencer, que resulta una polémica de oro, que traigo a colación, acerca de un tema controversial, que cada día más tiene gran vigencia en este hemisferio, sobre todo, para algunos países que aún continúan con el modelo “socialista”, cuando desde el siglo antepasado se establecieron las directrices de sus propias contradicciones como sistema, conjeturadas por muchos, a través de diferentes tendencias y posturas encontradas, como las sostenidas por el propio José Martí, en torno a los conceptos polares de Herbert Spencer y su teoría de la “futura esclavitud social”, que cada día se convierte en un antimodelo social y humano, además de hostil espejo, que nos refleja una problemática de pasmosa actualidad, aunque algunos vivos pretendan ocultarnos su sol con un dedo.
Gracias a su trascendencia y entrañable presencia entre nosotros, las ciudades de Hialeah y el Condado Miami Dade realizan sendas Paradas Martianas cada año, en homenaje a esta figura cimera de nuestro gentilicio, singular prócer cubano, renovador de las letras hispánicas, donde gobiernos estatales y federales, miembros de juntas escolares y agrupaciones patrióticas, así como comunicadores, artistas y alumnos de las escuelas Lincoln-Martí, representando a sus padres y maestros, festejan esta fecha memorable, en comunidad y regocijo, lo cual se ha convertido, más que efemérides tradicional, en una celebración de alto contenido nacionalista y de cultura popular, que proyecta nuestras raíces al universo.
